Does your business have multiple servers? Back-ups are an essential part of data maintenance and can save you large amounts of time and money in the future. Have you considered a shared storage solution?
Shared storage solutions allow you to isolate storage traffic from the rest of your local area network (LAN) and is simultaneously accessible by multiple servers at once. There are many forms of shared storage, including storage area networks (SAN), network attached storage (NAS) and cloud storage with file-sharing.
Storage area networks store data in blocks, whereas network attached storage stores data in an unorganized file format. SANs use fibre connectivity to transfer data whereas NAS systems rely on ethernet connections. SANs are a network of interconnected storage devices, whereas an NAS is an independent storage device - both are attached to the LAN whereas cloud storage is uploaded directly from the device to the internet.
Which is right for you depends on how you need your data stored and how much data you need stored. Typically smaller needs can be accommodated by cloud-based storage, medium by NAS and larger by SANs.
