With so many businesses converting to online, or at least adding an online presence, it is easy to forget to include where your business is located - EVEN if the business is strictly online. A sense of place is incredibly important for customers. Most want to know who they are buying from and who they are supporting. Is it someone in their community? Is it someone in another community they want to support?
A site that is detached from any specific place can be a bit of a deterrent for customers. It creates an additional layer of security to know where the product or service is coming from and can add an element of connection and loyalty. It is also helpful for local customers to know they are supporting a community member and can perhaps visit the business if needed, instead of mailing something off.
Creating a sense of place can be as simple as a footnote that reads, "made with love in...", or "proudly serving Vancouver's North Shore since 1984." You can include a map in the contacts section, or pictures from your community. It is a simple step that creates a humanistic connection between your client and your business.
