Spending a lot of money on ink cartridges but don't print much? For many users the cost of maintaining their ink far outweighs the costs of the printer. The general rule of thumb in fact, is that if you print less than 200 pages per year, provided that a print shop is not ridiculously far to get to, printing at said print shop / copy shop is much more economical.
Before you ditch the printer, you may want to try a few tips to prolong the life of your cartridges.
1. Don't power off your printer - instead, let it go into sleep mode, in which your ink will rest on moisture pads (which need to be replaced every few years) instead of being locked in an air drying position.
2. Have a print sheet in which you print out a test every week or so.
3. Print your tests on "draft" setting to reduce ink used.
4. For longer periods of inactivity, try removing the cartridges from your printer and storing them in air-tight containers.
