Many of us work from home these days. Maybe some thought this to be a temporary situation, so they never really optimized their home work space. Or maybe some always worked from home, but just made do. We threw together a few of our favourite work-from-home tweaks that will make your home office an easy place to earn that paycheque!
External drive - if you never worked from home prior to now, your work computer was your business computer and your home computer was your personal computer. That may no longer be the case and the two may now be one and the same. But what if something happens to your computer? Then you've lost both personal and work files, creating double the stress. Enter the external drive. Keep all your work stuff on a physical external drive and then back that up onto the cloud. Trust us - a little extra work now can save a whole lot of time and money down the road!
Personal and Business Browser Profiles - Create a second work profile on your web browser. This will allow you to keep a separate browser history, favourites bar and password manager for your work, which can really increase efficiency when you don't have to sift through work and private activities.
Bluetooth Headset - Zoom, MS Teams... whichever platform you choose to conduct your meetings on will really benefit from a dedicated headset and improve the quality of your meetings. We highly recommend a bluetooth set, so you can still walk around when it's not absolutely necessary to have your video on.
Ergonomic Accessories - keyboards and mice that keep your hands/wrists/arms in optimal position to reduce strain and fatigue are a huge lifesaver and a worthwhile investment.
Blue light Filter - be sure to turn your blue light filter on when possible on your computer. This will also reduce eye strain and fatigue and give you more energy at the end of your work day.
Quick Access Menu - customize your "quick access" menu in your file explorer. There's nothing worse than having to sift through multiple nested folders time and again to find the one you need. Add your most frequented folders to your quick access menu to reduce your frustration and boost your efficiency.
