Improve Your Click-Through Rate

You've invested in online advertising for your website, but despite the number of people that are seeing your ad, you're not getting a great return on your investment. In short, you are hoping to improve your click-through rate. A click-through rate is the percentage of people that click on the ad when they see it (as opposed to seeing your ad but doing nothing).

Google Search Console can provide great data for each page by navigating to the "Performance" tab and adding the "Average CTR" metric to the results for each page over a given period of time. Aim for a CTR of 2% or higher; anything less and you may want to look at ways to improve these results. If you have a large site, prioritize the most important pages and work your way down the list.

Some ideas to improve your CTR for these pages can include:

  • Testing different meta and title tags over given periods of time to see which perform better

  • Alter page titles to evoke user emotions

  • Consider altering content to include skimmable lists as opposed to paragraphs

  • Alter page urls so they are descriptive and include prioritized keywords

  • Ensure your primary keywords and longtail phrases are included in your metadata, description and snippets
