Find the Gaps, Boost your Rankings

If your competition is constantly at the top of the search engine listings and you are hovering a steady distance below, you may want to consider a gap analysis. If you've never done this exercise before, you might be surprised at what you find!

The idea is to find content that your competitors are ranking high for, and you are not currently using. Once you've identified some of this content gap, you have a wealth of material to use for updated content, which is always a good idea from an SEO standpoint. Plus, it provides an opportunity to improve on this content above and beyond your competition.

You'll want to start with some keyword research. There are a number of online tools that can help you do this. Most of these tools will also allow you to proceed to a content gap analysis of your competitors by entering in their website and identifying which of those keywords are contributing to their higher rankings.

Finally, take those keyword topics and do some market research with your current and potential clients. What do they want to know? What are they looking for? How can your product or service help in those inquiries? Use this information to update your current content and what the rankings climb. Remember to include these keywords in your media, metadata and alt tags!
